Lumber, Paper and Hardwoods—The North Central Workforce Investment Board, along with the Allegheny Hardwoods Utilization Group, has formed the Lumber, Paper and Hardwoods Industry Partnership. The finest hardwoods in the country grow in this region, and the partnership is vigilant about maintaining and emphasizing this reputation in the global marketplace. Access to raw materials at an affordable price is key to the

region’s success. Also, there is a great deal of industry knowledge in this region and the partnership is working to ensure this is passed on to the youth so that the industry may survive. While this industry has faced some setbacks, the partnership hopes to capitalize and build upon the region’s strong heritage and work ethic to renew the industry.
