The NWPA Technology
The NWPA Technology Industry Partnership is one of the newer partnerships within the Northwest Pennsylvania Workforce Investment Area, but the mission, goals and objectives are of utmost importance to a vast array of industry clusters within the region. The mission of this partnership is to introduce innovative technologies to all industry sectors for overall improved regional competitiveness.
The Partnership efforts include a plan for engaging in a discovery process that will identify ‘next pillar technology’ (emerging technologies), defining the needs of employers and their employees in ‘support technologies’ (telecommunications) and the development of a curriculum in relation to the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) sector.
The partnership and its steering committee consists of representatives from private sector businesses from a variety of industry sectors, including Information Technology providers, process automation companies, healthcare, financial, RFID programming specialists and manufacturers in PA-based industry clusters. Currently, 30 companies are participating in the Technology Industry Partnership.
The partnership recently developed and submitted an Incumbent Worker Training Grant proposal that details the intended delivery model of RFID curriculum development and incumbent worker training in this emerging technology. Under this proposal, the partnership plans to develop curriculum and course material and train 115 incumbent workers.
This partnership is open to companies in all industry clusters that are interested in integrating emerging technologies into their businesses.
